CONRAD SHIPYARD HISTORY
The history of Conrad Joint Stock Company has its roots in 1989, when Marine Project Ltd., now a well known company in Europe, established one of the first private shipyards in Poland. It continued to run effectively for years building hulls, turnkey superstructures up to 900 tons and complete ships in lengths up to 100 meters. In 1993 Marine Projects Ltd. co-built a 200 foot brigantine with complex finishing which was sailing under the name “Swan Fan Makkum”. In the years 1992 and 1995 Marine Projects Ltd. built hulls for sailing yachts in lengths of 105 and 110 feet.
In 1999 Marine Projects Ltd. became the owner of a famous Gdansk shipyard complex named after the famous writer, Joseph Conrad Korzeniowski; locally referred to as “Conrad“ Shipyard.
In 2002 Marine Projects Ltd. made a contract with an American client to build a Custom 27-meter luxurious motor yacht designed by Mr. Bill Dixon. It this time in 2003, Marine Projects Ltd. decided to open Conrad Joint Stock Company, a new company solely for producing large and luxury yachts, both Motor and Sailing, in their specialities of steel and aluminium.
In 2005, under the new brand Conrad Shipyard launched and successfully commissioned 3 different kinds of yachts – a 27-meter luxurious tri-deck motor yacht – ESCAPE S, the JACK LONDON, a 15-meter motor yacht in the style of Classic tugboats – and CAPO FC, a 12-meter fast aluminium boat
In 2006 Conrad finished refitting outfitting a 20-meter classic sailing yacht “Talisman” originally built by Abeking & Rasmussen in 1920. It was equipped with complete new interior as well as a new engine, bow thruster, new air conditioning and installation of all new systems.
In 2007 Conrad continued the construction of new orders, and the most important projects of the year 2007 were Sailing Yacht CONRAD 66 and Motor Yacht CONRAD CLASSIC 58. Both these yachts are the original design and turnkey products of the Conrad Shipyard Team. The CONRAD 66 sailing yacht had her premiere in autumn at the largest and most prestigious international boat shows in Europe.
In year 2008 the Conrad Classic 58 model was introduced and presented for the first time at the BOOT 2008 Show in Dusseldorf and was nominated for the European Powerboat of the Year. In spring Conrad Shipyard has successfully completed construction of next CAPO vessel built for our Swedish partners.
Also in 2008, Conrad finished a 24-meter luxurious aluminium sailing yacht INTUITION, built for a group of experienced sailors. Conrad, together with new Swedish partner Dockstavervet started working on a new project – two fast patrol vessels with luxurious interior finishing.
In year 2009 the shipyard has delivered to UAE the two extremely fast aluminium 19-meter vessels doing over 55 knots. In the middle of 2009, Conrad has also completed reconstruction works on a Custom Motorcoach named after pope John Paul II. At the beginning of July 2009, the shipyard began construction of next CONRAD 66 sailing yacht slightly improved and modified to the clients’ requirements with delivery date for May 2010. In autumn our shipyard once again participated in the most prestigious international boat shows presenting our Conrad Classic 58 model for the first time in the Mediterranean Sea region: in Cannes, Genoa and Barcelona Boat Shows.
In 2010 Conrad has started new design projects with world renowned design and naval architects office Vripack. The shipyard presented a unique Concept: a Custom 21-meter barge inspired by the Conrad Classic series. In May 2010 Conrad also completed on schedule the latest CONRAD 66 sailing yacht (S/Y AXIOM). In August, Conrad Shipyard continued works on – Conrad Barge 70 and started an innovative new sailing yacht, the Conrad 115.
In 2011 there was third Fast Patrol Vessel with Dockstavarvet called IC-16 – now with much higher standard interiors.
In 2013 the Flagship for the CONRAD SHIPYARD, LUNAR C115 was launched and presented in Cannes and Monaco Yacht Festivals. The all aluminium Motorsailer with ketch rigged Carbon spars achieved immediate acclaim and Nominated as Finalist in 2014 for Showboats Design Awards for Best Exterior Styling and Best Interior Design.
In 2014 the famous 1967 Scottish built, Sail-training Yacht Malcolm Miller was rebuilt at Conrad, with a complete new Interior, Electrics, teak deck and equipment, and conversion to Luxury Yacht.
In 2015 Conrad S.A and her parent Company Marine Projects Ltd. launched the 67 meter Le Qui Don, a three masted Barque, Cadet Training Vessel.
In 2016 Bellkara, a fully Custom 92 foot Aluminium Sailing Yacht is presented in Cannes and Monaco, following her Owner’s shakedown cruise to Norway. She features a Carbon Sloop rig with hydraulic lowering keel and fully custom Interiors of the Client’s vision, created in house in Conrad Shipyard’s Joinery Department.
Also in production in Gdansk is a Luxury 40 meter Motoryacht designed by Reymond Langton and Diana Yacht Design, with interiors By Conrad Interiors Design.
